DANVILLE -- Talks are under way with several high-end
retail stores and other potential tenants of the up-and-coming
Navlet's/Rose Garden Shopping Center, where one luxury
day spa already has signed a lease, the projects chief
developer said Tuesday. Were very pleased with the quality
and type of tenants that were having various levels of
discussions with, said developer Brad Blake, whose company,
Blake Hunt Ventures, along with Castle Companies of San
Ramon, is developing Navlet's/Rose Garden.
Because of the size and quality of their operation, we
really view (Burke Williams Day Spa) as an anchor-type
tenant for our project. We really think they have the
ability to attract other higher-profile retail and restaurants.
Construction has not yet begun on the planned 114,766-square-foot
office, shopping and apartment complex on 10 acres at
Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon. It is still at
least a year from completion.
But a number of high-quality shops and restaurants already
are interested in renting space, spurred on by the news
that a popular day spa will be joining the shopping center,
Blake said.
The Burke Williams Day Spa, which operates seven spa
locations in Southern California, has signed a 10-year
lease to occupy about 18,000 square feet on the second
floor of the shopping center, which originally was intended
for office space. The remaining 10,600 square feet on
the second story will host offices.
Danville's planning commission last month approved a
zoning change to allow for the spa, citing no anticipated
impacts on traffic or circulation.
The (number of parking spaces) is still well within what's
typical for a shopping center, city planner David Crompton
said.
Traffic and parking were among a laundry list of concerns
aired by dozens of opponents of the project when it first
was presented to Danville planners about two years ago.
The 19-year-old privately owned Burke Williams group
began its Northern California push about three years ago
with the opening of a spa in San Jose, Burke Williams
marketing director Terry Shofron said.
The company offers a variety of services including massage,
hair, nails, facials and wraps, with individual services
starting in the $120 range.
Another Burke Williams spa is due to open in late September
in the Bloomingdale's shopping complex in San Francisco.
"Obviously, we are a high-end spa, so (we go to
areas) where people can afford our services," Shofron
said. "We're looking at capitalizing and getting
our name out in the Northern California market."
Grading has begun on the project, with construction expected
to begin within the next couple of weeks. |
